Why not use Internet Explorer?
Why not use Microsoft Internet Explorer?

People are starting to agree with us! Look at this quote directly from CNET...

"In short, both browsers are better than they used to be. But Netscape Communicator is our new choice. We originally gave our Editors' Choice award to Internet Explorer based on its innovative features and fast performance. Over time, however, our experiences--and those of our readers--showed that the demands IE 4.0 places on systems can cause some serious problems. We saw and heard reports of video errors, resource shortages, and--in a few cases--system failures that forced Windows reinstalls. IE 4.01 is less risky, but it's not completely stable yet. So we pick Communicator 4.04 as our choice for Windows 95/Windows NT 4.0, despite IE 4.01's superior feature set and its performance edge. "

Another reason not to use Microsoft Internet Explorer is that it is very "insecure". Microsoft itself discoverred a bug that let anyone delete anything off your hard disk just by specifying some HTML code. Of course no one knew how to do it before, but now, since Microsoft enlightened us, lots of people know how to do it. Just look at this exerpt from the an auto-reply written by GeoCities ...

IMPORTANT NOTE: As many of you may know, Microsoft Internet Explorer was found to contain a serious bug which allows hackers to use HTML links to create, modify and even delete any directory on your hard drive. Because of this, GeoCities has decided to disable HTML TEMPORARILY in all the GeoCities chat rooms until further notice.

We realize the creative use of HTML is unique and important to many of our chat room regulars. However, we are committed to protecting all our users and don't want to take any chances. We will keep HTML disabled until Microsoft distributes its promised fix throughout the Internet Community.

Thank you for your understanding.

...and thanks to Microsoft, now everyone using IE 3.0 can worry about their hard drive being cleaned out while surfing the web. Microsoft does have an update (version 3.2) out now at IE's Home, but for the same money, couldn't you just Download Netscape 3.0?

Another reason I don't like MSIE is its poor handling of mineal tasks. Like downloading for instance. While Netscape is nice enough to give you a new window, explorer does not. Also, if you are low on hard drive room, Netscape will tell you that you don't have enough space to download a file before you download it (As opposed to after you download it).

Also, Explorer doesn't designate space for the images to load. It also takes lots longer to bring up a page on the screen. It starts loading the page, but shows you nothing. Though it is nicer for browsing through Microsoft, it works a lot worse for most web pages.

Forget about real JavaScript capability if you are using Explorer 3.0. You won't be able to use the cool JavaScripts that work for Netscape 3.0. (Take my page for example).

There are some nice things about IE, like its interface and the marquee tag, but they are not nice enough to make it the best browser on the market.
